Ctrip and Emissions Zero Partner to Help Travelers Offset Carbon Emissions
Shanghai, China, 19th May - Emissions Zero and Ctrip.com International, Ltd. (Nasdaq: CTRP) are partnering to help Ctrip members understand the environmental impact of their flights and offset the carbon emissions generated during those flights.
On purchasing a flight, Ctrip customers will be able to find out with one click the carbon emissions resulting from their journey. They will also be given the opportunity to offset their emissions by helping to fund one of Emissions Zero’s high-quality emissions reductions projects.
Helping individuals understand their carbon footprint is an important first step in the fight against climate change. Flights are a relatively carbon-intensive activity. For example, a return economy flight from Shanghai to Kunming results in emissions of almost one ton of CO2—an amount that equals a full quarter of China's annual per capita average of four tons of greenhouse gas emissions per person.
Helping Ctrip members understand their travel carbon footprint is an important tool in educating people about the environmental impact of their actions and encouraging them to take positive action.
