We at Emissions Zero are currently enjoying the final arrival of spring in Shanghai. As the weather gets hotter, now is the perfect time to begin thinking about how you can live greener

Here are Emissions Zero’s top 5 tips for reducing your carbon emissions in hotter weather.

1. Turn down your air-con Whether in your car or at home try to use as little air-conditioning as possible. Before thinking about using your air-conditioning, open your windows first and see if it is still too hot. if the heat is still unbearable (we know that happens, we live in Shanghai!), close the windows, but only turn the temperature on your air conditioning system down to 26 degrees celcius.

2. Travel greener Warmer weather makes driving your car or calling a taxi even less necessary. Walk where you can, and if you haven’t got one already, think about buying a bike

3. Holiday by train or bus Flying is one of the most carbon-intensive activities on the planet. Try and think of a summer holiday destination that you can get to by train or bus. There are bound to be many great places, and the journey is much more fun!

4. Cut your meat consumption Warmer weather is the perfect excuse to eat more salads, fruits and vegetables. Not only will you be living more healthily, you will be cutting down on meat consumption, which will significantly your carbon footprint

5. Dry your clothes outside Ditch the drier and hang your clothes to dry outside. The clothes drier is the most energy-intensive appliances in your home and you have no excuse while the weather is getting warm!
